These domestic fireside bellows were hand made in country Victoria in the mid-19th century. The customer wanted the bellows restored for his grandmother who had a sentimental attachment to them although they had not been used for many years.
The leather was very badly deteriorated and the bamboo springs were broken. We replaced the bamboo springs with spring steel wire and recovered the air chamber with kid leather. A woven leather was used to finish the nose cone.
